Superiority Is Not Based Upon Wealth And Property

"And were it not that all people will become of a single creed (i.e.  disbelief), We will have caused, for the benefit of those who disbelieve in Rahman, roofs of their houses to be made of silver, and the stairs as well, on which they will climb, and doors of their homes, and the coaches on which they will recline, and (will have made some of these things) of gold ornaments. And all this is nothing but an enjoyment of the worldly life. And the Hereafter, with your Lord, is (destined) for the God-fearing. (Qur'an 43:33-35)

Dhuhaa (Breakfast) Prayer

Dhuhaa (Breakfast) PrayerWhen the sun has risen high and there is heat in its rays, the performance of 2,4,6,8 or 12 rakaats is called Dhuhaa (breakfast) prayer. This is full of countless rewards.

The Traditions say that the performance of 2 rak’aahs wipes away all ones sins. There are 360 joints in our body and to pay Sadaqah for each is obligatory (wajib). The 2 rak’aahs is enough to pay all the Sadaqah.

Importance of a Promise

Importance of keeping one's promise

Fulfillment of promise is a distinctive trait of the character of the prophets and the pious, and a normal code of conduct with all decent persons.

Breaking of a promise, on the other hand, is a habit of the wicked, mean and liars. A saying of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is,

A Warning Not to Be Ignored

It has been reported from Sayyubna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

"When spoils are taken as personal property and trust property as spoils and Zakah as penalty, and religious learning is acquired for worldly objectives, and

when man starts obeying his wife and disobeying his mother, and keeps his friend near and his father far, and when voices rise in mosques and the chief

Tabdhir - The prohibition of spending wastefully

The Qur'an expresses the sense of spending wastefully through two words: (1) Tabdhir, translated as 'squandering recklessly'. (2) Israf, extravagance.

waterforestThe prohibition of tabdhir is already clear in verse 26 of Surah Bani Isra'il (Al Isra). The prohibition of Israf has its proof in the verse of Surah al-A'raf (and do not be extravagant - 7:33).

Some commentators say that both words are synonymous. Any spending in sin or disobedience or a wrong occasion or place is called tabdhir and israf.

Wise Words

Imam Shafi'i, (may the mercy of Allah be upon him) said,

Lion"Knowledge is a brotherhood of the learned. How do those who have turned knowledge into enmity could invite others to follow their religion?

When their sole objective is to dominate over others, how could they be expected to practice mutual attachment, love and consideration?

And for one what evil could be greater than that which drowns him in the morals of the hypocrites and deprives him of the morals of those who truly believe in Allah?"

Whatever religion or way of life we follow, we all agree that death will come to us sooner or later.

DeathThe Prophet (peace be upon him) came to see Abu Salamah when his sight had become fixed (he had passed away).

So the Prophet (peace be upon him) closed his eyes and said,

"When the soul is seized and it leaves the body, the eyes follow it."

The issue of Tamlik (Transfer of Ownership)
The majority of Muslim jurists agrees that, even in the fixed eight categories of recipients, the condition for a valid payment of Zakah is that someone deserving should be given possession of Zakah property as its owner

If money was spent for the benefit of these very people - without having made them possess it as its owner - Zakah will remain unpaid.

Music Is Haram

Music Is Haram
In recent years, music has become an extremely important issue for Muslims across the entire world, to such an extent that it is affecting every Muslim in today’s modern day society, the so called  modern era.

Today, individuals are being confronted by a situation where one is forced to listen to music whether by choice or without.

Music is played in nearly all department stores, super markets, streets, technologies, all kinds of transportation, sadly enough, I can’t even believe I’m writing this, even Muslim households. Some even try to justify music as being halal, Allah save us, Aameen.

Sweetest thing ever.. Romance of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).

RomanceAisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and the Prophet (peace be upon him) would use code language with each other denoting their love.

Hunting - Dog & Falcon

Some companions asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about the rule governing hunting with the help of a trained dog and falcon.

FalconThe answer was given in the following verse,

"They ask you as to what has been made lawful for them. Say, 'Made lawful for you are good things, and (hunting through) birds and beasts of prey that you train teaching them out of what Allah has taught you. So, eat of what they hold for you, and recite the name of Allah upon it.' And fear Allah. Surely, Allah is swift at reckoning. (Surah Al-Aa'idah: 5:4)

A Good Wife

A Good WifeThe profile of a good wife can be adapted to the rule - that man is charged with a duty-bound authority over women. Women are described as good ones and bad ones in the Qur'an.

This means that women who are righteous accept this rule of the precedence of men and obey them, and when they are not with them, they stand guard on their own selves, as well as on what the husband has earned for the family.

Obviously, goes without saying that the protection of the personal honour and modesty of a women, and that of everything else in the house are under her charge are basic to the happiness that lies behind a successful home management.

Alcohol Is The Mother Of All Evils

Effect of Alcohol on the Liver
AlcoholWine and alcohol cause swelling and weakening of liver and slow down its function. The swelling increases and this gives rise to acute pain of the liver.

The part of the liver that is nearer to the stomach is first affected. The kidneys become yellow and the effect becomes apparent in the eyes of that person.

Alcohol prohibited in Islam

Alcohol is the mother of all evils; whoever falls into this sin, it will lead him into other evil actions. We ask Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) to keep us safe and sound. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

May Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) give us life to see next Ramadhan as the clocks of life are ticking by,

and may He accept all our efforts & forgive our shortcomings during this blessed month of Ramadhan, Aameen.

"The life of this world is of three days: As for yesterday it has vanished, along with all that was in it; tomorrow, you may never see; As for today, it is yours, so work in it." (Al-Hasan Al-Basri)

The Husband’s Rights Over His Wife

The rights of the husband over his wife are among the greatest rights; indeed his rights over her are greater than her rights over him, because Allah says,

Parrots"And they (women) have rights (over their husbands as regards living expenses) similar (to those of their husbands) over them (as regards obedience and respect) to what is reasonable, but men have a degree (of responsibility) over them" (al-Baqarah 2:228)

Al-Jassaas said,

"Allah tells us in this aayah that each of the spouses has rights over the other, and that the husband has one particular right over his wife which she does not have over him."

The Boat

BoatThe example of the one who is steadfast on preserving the limits of Allah and the one who has fallen over it is that of a people that are on a boat.

Some of them go to the top and others go to the bottom. Those on the bottom - in order for them to drink - had to disturb those on top.

So they said to themselves: "Let us make a hole in the bottom of the boat in this portion of ours, so as not to disturb those above."

If the people on top leave them to what they want to do, they will all die. If they deal with them and stop them, they will save everyone. (Al Tirmidhi)

The Poor Man

Poor ManIt was a usual meeting. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) was in his place and his companions gathered around him to hear the words of wisdom and guidance.

Suddenly a poor man in rags appeared, saluted the assembly,

"Assalamu Alaikum" and finding a vacant place, comfortably sat down. The Prophet (peace be upon him) had taught them that all Muslims were brothers and in an assembly one should sit wherever one finds a place, regardless of any status.

Singing In IslamIbn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said,

"The interpretation of the Sahaabah and Taabi’in, that ‘idle talk’ refers to singing, is sufficient."

This was reported with saheeh isnaads from Ibn ‘Abbaas and Ibn Mas’ood. Abu’l-Sahbaa’ said,

"I asked Ibn Mas’ood about the aayah" (interpretation of the meaning),

"And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks" [Luqmaan 31:6].

Free Mixing In Islam

Free mixing in Islam is the intermingling of the opposite sexes namely men and women.

Muslim Man And Women1. Mixing of women with men who are their Mahram (husband and men whom she may never marry, e.g. father, brother, son etc). There is no doubt that this is permissible in Islam.

2. Mixing of women with non-Mahram men for evil and depraved purposes. There is no doubt that this type is not allowed (haram) in Islam.

Spiritual illnesses

Flower, The Wonders of the HeartA human has two aspects to his life, physical and spiritual. The physical aspect is related to the body and the spiritual aspect is related to the soul.

Both aspects are vulnerable to illnesses. Just as the body can suffer from physical ailments such as cancer, TB, fever, headache, etc..

The soul can also suffer from spiritual illnesses, such as riya (ostentation), takabbur (pride and arrogance), hasad (jealousy), lack of sabr (patience), lack of shukr (gratitude), love for fame and wealth, etc.

Curing Fear & Insomnia

The Prophet's (peace be upon him) guidance on curing fear and insomnia is the best guidance in my opinion.

At-Tirmidhi narrated in his Sunan that Khalid once complained to the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he does not sleep well at night. Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

"When you go to bed say, 'O Allah! The Lord of the seven heavens and what is under them, the Lord of the earths and what they carry, and the Lord of the devils and whoever they misguide!

Proper Way To Sit While Eating

BlackberriesThe Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

"I do not eat while leaning on my side."

He also said,

"I only sit like the slave sits and eat like the slave eats."

Leaning on the side harms the stomach because it prevents the food from going down the proper channel and reaching the stomach quickly,

as it pressures the stomach and does not allow it to be open properly for the food to pass through.

Praise Allah

If I am afflicted with a calamity, I praise Allah for it 4 times:

FeathersI praise Him because it wasn't worse than it was,

I praise Him when He gives me the patience to bear it,

I praise Him for enabling me to say al-istirja' ('To Allah we belong and to him we will return) in hope of a great reward,

I praise Him for not making it a calamity in my religion. (Shurayh)

What Is Love?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) narrated that his Lord said,

Three Lions
“My love is guaranteed for two who love one another for My sake; My love is guaranteed for two who visit one another for My sake; My love is guaranteed for two who help one another (financially) for My sake; My love is guaranteed to two who uphold ties with one another for My sake." (Ahmad)

I know a man who lost his parents but refused to be called an orphan. He was man enough to love a strong woman years older than him, worked for her and made her stronger, opened his heart to her, shared his fears to no one but her.

Utrujj (Citron)

Did you know it is narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"The example of the believer who prays the Qur'an is the example of the Utrujj: its taste is delicious and its scent is pleasent." (Sahih)

The Utrujj consists of four elements, namely the peel, heart (or pulp), the pith, and the seed. The peels are hot and dry, while the pulp is hot and wet. The Utrujj pith is cold and dry, while its seed is hot and dry.

A River

I entered Paradise and found myself by a river, by its edges were tents of pearls.

Then I tapped with my hands where the water was running, and there was then a beautiful smell of Musk.

I asked, "What is this O Gabriel?"

He said, "This is Kawthar (river in Paradise) which Allah has given to you." (Sahihi al-Jami)

After Hajj

Firstly, the sincerity of intention should remain even after the performance of Hajj. There should be no pomp or show. One should not wished to be called or recognized as a Haajji.

The Kaaba
Many people adopt the habit of talking frequently about their journey in order that people may come to know of their Hajj. This is a deceit from Shaytaan who ruins the ibaadah of the person who is unaware ot it.

It is therefore, of great importance that the pilgrim does not talk about his Hajj without necessity, as it may lead to riyaa (show, insincerity).

However, if necessity arises and one must talk about his Hajj, then he is at liberty to do so.

Tawaafe Widaa

For as long as you remain in Makkah, value every second and engage in tawaaf, Umrah, zikr, and ibadaah, etc. However, do not perform Umrah until after 13th Zul Hijjah.

Tawaafe Widaa
Time For Tawaafe Widaa

Tawaafe widaa can be performed any time after tawaafe ziyaarat but it is more better to perform it at the very time of departing.

1. When you decide to depart from Makkah Mukarramah, perform tawaafe widaa (farewell tawaaf) which is waajib.

2. Perform two raka'at of tawaaf at Maqaamah Ibraaheem and then go to the well of Zamzam and facing qiblah drink its water in three draughts to your fill.
